Jennifer Cattermole

Jennifer Cattermole is senior lecturer in music at the University of Otago. Most recently, she has been researching the origins and development of Māori and Moriori musical instruments. This research has been supported through a Royal Society of New Zealand’s Marsden grant. She is currently completing a book on this topic, to be published by Otago University Press. Jennifer developed a passion for taonga pūoro (Māori musical instruments) after attending a workshop given by Richard Nunns, and has been playing, making and teaching since 2012. Her other research interests include music policy and politics, community music-making, and the role of music in reflecting and constructing place and identity.
