Jesse K. Butler

Jesse K. Butler is a Ph.D. candidate in the faculty of education at the University of Ottawa. His doctoral research involves studying the enactment of citizenship education policies in the context of urban high schools with high numbers of students who are refugees, new immigrants or indigenous to Canada. This research raises questions regarding how themes of diversity, inclusion and pluralism are framed in citizenship education policies and how these policies are translated into urban school contexts. Butler’s doctoral research is supported by a 2016–19 Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship. He has published his research in a number of peer-reviewed academic journals, including Urban Education, Education Policy Analysis Archives, Transnational Curriculum Inquiry, In Education and The Journal of the Canadian Association for Curriculum Studies.
