Jiva Nath Lamsal is a Ph.D. researcher at the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, The School of Literature, Art and Media, The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the University of Sydney, Australia. His thesis ‘Gods, humans and demons dancing together: Politics and poetics of ritualistic and cultural performances of Nepal’ examines how rulers of Nepal from Malla dynasty of the past to the Republican president at present have used ritualistic and cultural performances like Gaijatra (The Procession of Sacred Cows) and Indrajatra (The Procession of King of Gods) to authenticate and legitimize their political power.
