Joa Hug

Joa Hug is a Berlin-based artist researcher with an artistic background as dancer and performer and an academic background in the humanities (history, political science, sociology, English). His artistic research is crafted around Body Weather performance training and explores the epistemic potential of touch as a technique to investigate the relations between conceptual and more-than-conceptual modes of thinking and writing. Further research interests are the epistemology and methodology of artistic research, as well as the relations between embodied research and digital media. Hug received his DA (Dance) from the University of the Arts Helsinki/Theatre Academy (2020). His doctoral thesis, ‘Propositions for unfinished thinking: The research score as a medium of artistic research’, is published open access on the Research Catalogue. Hug initiated the foundation of Areal_Berlin in 2011.
