Joan Key

Joan Key is a painter, living and working in London. Currently an associate lecturer in fine art, University for the Creative Arts, Canterbury, she has written extensively on contemporary practice, often focusing on works by women artists. Her catalogue essays have been published by galleries including Peer Trust on Olga Jevric; Van Abbe Museum on Pavel Buchler; Spacex on Jayne Parker; Tintype on Lynne Marsh; and Anthony Reynolds Gallery on Amikam Toren. Key’s essays also appeared in the Whitechapel and MIT Press publications on Painting and Craft, as well as in Third Text, Art Monthly, Turps Banana, Journal of Contemporary Painting and Forward Slash Seconds. MAKE, the journal of the Women’s Art Library has published her essays on Lucia Nogueira, Prunella Clough and Susana Solana. Key is a member of Interval Research Group, based in Canterbury, investigating practical and formal exchanges arising from the presentation of painting in relation to moving image.
