John C. McCall
John McCall is an ethnographer and cultural anthropologist with a lifelong interest in African arts. He has conducted extensive field research on the arts and cultures of south-east Nigeria and has published on a wide range of topics including music, dance, masquerade and film. His work includes Dancing Histories (Indiana University Press, 2000) and numerous articles in professional journals. Since 2000, McCall has been writing about the emergent video movie industry in Nigeria. He is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Africana Studies at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
