John C. Traver

John C. Traver is an associate professor of English at California State University-Chico. His scholarship has appeared in publications such as Eighteenth-Century Fiction and Studies in English Literature (SEL). He specializes in eighteenth-century British literature, where his interest in the neo-classical period’s debate on ‘poetic justice’ – the prescription that artistic works should conclude with rewards for the virtuous and punishments for the wicked – has prompted research in how similar concerns of morality and artistic form converge in the various responses to the Comics Code.
