John Cumming

John Cumming is a senior lecturer in screen and design at Deakin University. Their independent films have screened internationally. John has served on boards and committees of publications, film festivals, film and community media organizations and served as president of the Australian Screen Production Education and Research Association (ASPERA). From 2012 to 2018, they were course director of film, television and animation at Deakin. John coordinated film and media courses at the University of Technology Sydney and the University of Melbourne, taught at the Victorian College of the Arts and La Trobe University. John is founder and coordinator of the 50-year-old Deakin Film, Television and Animation Archive, which includes the Open Channel Archive. They have written for journals and magazines on filmmaking and cultural policy. John’s book The Films of John Hughes: A History of Independent Screen Production in Australia is published by Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM).
