John F. Lennon

John F. Lennon is an associate professor of English at the University of South Florida. His research is principally concerned with how marginalized individuals exert politicized voices in collectivized actions. He is the author of Boxcar Politics: The Hobo in Literature and Culture 1869–1956 (UMass Press, 2014). Lennon is the author, co-author or co-editor of a number of articles and edited collections including Working-Class Literature(s): Historical and International Perspectives (2017). His current book project Conflict Graffiti: From Revolution to Gentrification examines graffiti as an evolving language of protest rooted in the specific material culture of a particular area but is read, interpreted and remixed by a global audience. For this book, which will be published by the University of Chicago Press in 2021, Lennon researched and travelled to Egypt, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, England, Sweden, Brazil, Germany and, within the United States, New Orleans and Detroit.
