John Scheckter
John Scheckter is Emeritus professor of English at Long Island University, New York. He is a founding member and past president of the American Association of Australasian Literary Studies. He has published widely on American and postcolonial literature, Indigenous writing, autobiography and illustrated text. His most recent article, ‘Douglas Mawson and the Nation of Science’ (2020), discusses Antarctic exploration in terms of Australian national identification. His books include The Australian Novel, 1830-1980 (1998), The Isle of Pines, 1668: Henry Neville’s Uncertain Utopia (2011), and a forthcoming examination of the personal archive of an Australian officer in the First World War.
