Jon Kortazar

Jon Kortazar is a professor of Basque literature at the University of the Basque Country. He is also the lead researcher of www.laida.eus, a research group on literature and identity. He has coordinated a history of contemporary Basque literature (Egungo euskal Literaturaren Historia) (UPV-EHU, 2007–17) and edited volumes such as Autonomía e ideología en el campo cultural vasco (‘Autonomy and ideology in the Basque cultural field’) (Iberomericana Vervuert, 2016) and Bridge/Zubia, imágenes de la relación cultural entre el País Vasco y Estados Unidos (‘Bridge/Zubia, images of the cultural relation between the Basque Country and the United States’) (Iberomericana-Vervuert, 2019). He is also the author of Euskal Literatura XX. mendean (‘Basque literature in the 20th century’) (Etor, Deia, Las tres sorores, 1990–2015), La pluma y la tierra (‘The pen and the land’) (Foundation Labayru, 1999), Bernardo Atxaga: Basque Literature from the End of the Franco Era to the Present (Nevada University Press, 2007), and Contemporary Basque Literature: Kirmen Uribe’s Proposal (Iberoameriana-Vervuert, 2013). His works have been translated into ten languages, and he has received the Rosalía de Castro Award (2008) for his essay-genre work and the Lauaxeta Award (2009) for his whole work.
