Jon Orman
Jon Orman studied modern languages (French and Dutch) at University College London. This was followed by postgraduate studies in linguistics at Queen Mary, University of London. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2007 with a thesis entitled Language Policy and Nation-Building in Post-Apartheid South Africa which was subsequently published as a monograph by Springer in 2008. Between 2011 and 2013, he was a postdoctoral research fellow in linguistics at the University of Cape Town and in 2014/2015 he was a lecturer in linguistics and communication studies at the University of Portsmouth. His main research interests lie within the domain of general linguistic theory and the philosophy of language with a particular focus on integrational linguistics and the work of Roy Harris. He is currently working on a monograph entitled The Individual and the Social in Linguistic Thought (Routledge).
