Joni A. Turville is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Secondary Education at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Her research is focused on how twenty-first-century digital technologies mediate pedagogical communication and relationships. Her interest in studying the philosophy of technology began when she was working as an executive staff officer of a large professional organization as she heard from teachers about how e-mail was impacting their personal and professional lives. This topic branched into many research interests including phenomenology, postphenomenology and media ecology. She is co-author of a forthcoming chapter on doing postphenomenology in educational research in an anthology entitled Postphenomenological Methodologies – New Ways in Mediating Techno-Human Relationships and continues to work on the executive staff of the Alberta Teachers’ Association.
