Joy Elizabeth Hayes

Joy Elizabeth Hayes is an associate professor of communication studies at the University of Iowa. Her research focuses on the cultural history of broadcasting in the United States and Mexico. She has published on radio and the construction of post-revolutionary nationalism in Mexico, and her current research explores the way that community radio can thicken civil society and realign local, national and transnational interests in the Mexican public sphere. Her recent work on US radio examines the performance of white, middle-class family life in the serial One Man’s Family, and investigates the role of regional radio networks in imagining the modern Southwest.
