Julia Brühne
Julia Brühne studied Romance and American studies and theatre studies in Munich. In 2014, she received her Ph.D. from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz with the thesis ‘¡Bienvenido neorrealismo! Politik, Subjekt und Libido im spanischen Nachkriegskino’ (‘¡Bienvenido neorrealismo! Politics, subject and libido in postwar Spanish cinema’). Since 2019, she has been junior professor of transnational literature and media studies at the University of Bremen. Her research interests include Spanish cinema since the 1980s, film noir and nouvelle vague, fantastic literature in France and Argentina, psychoanalysis and political allegory. In her current book project, she explores the question of the connection between language, sovereignty, play and jouissance in nineteenth-century French literature as well as in early French cinema.
