Julia Listengarten
Julia Listengarten is professor of theatre, artistic director and director of graduate studies at University of Central Florida. She has written on avant-garde and contemporary theatre, scenographic practices and performances of national identity. Her translation of Vvedensky’s Christmas at the Ivanovs’ premiered Off-Broadway at Classic Stage Company. Her books include Russian Tragifarce: Its Cultural and Political Roots (2000), Modern American Playwriting: 2000–2009 (with Rosenthal, 2018), Theater of the Avant-Garde, 1950–2000 (with Knopf, 2011) and Playing with Theory in Theatre Practice (with Alrutz and Wood, 2012). She has contributed essays to publications including Semiotic Inquiry, Stanislavski Studies: Practice, Legacy and Contemporary Theater, SCENE, and Scenography International, among others; co-edited the series Decades of Modern American Playwriting: 1930–2009; and is currently editor of Stanislavski Studies: Practice, Legacy and Contemporary Theater journal.
