Justin Adams Burton

Justin Adams Burton is the author of Posthuman Rap (Oxford 2017), co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of Hip Hop Music Studies (forthcoming 2018) and regular contributor to Sounding Out!. Justin’s work revolves around popular music − especially hip hop, pop and dance genres − in the context of race, gender and sexuality. As an assistant professor of music working in Rider University’s Popular Music Studies degree, Justin designs and teaches courses that span the critical analysis of popular music, writing about music and digital composition and mixing techniques in a variety of popular music styles. Justin’s work has appeared in the Oxford Handbook of Mobile Music Studies, the Journal of Popular Music Studies, the Journal of Popular Culture, the Journal of the Society for American Music, the Journal of Music History Pedagogy and Shima.
