Justin D. Martin
Justin D. Martin is Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the American University in Cairo. Justin’s teaching and research interests involve political and international communication, media ethics and mass media research methods. He is particularly interested in media and politics in the Arab world and in news use and political participation among young people. His research and writing have appeared in Journalism Studies, Journal of Communication and The Journal of Media and Religion, as well as in a number of edited books on political communication. Also an active freelance reporter, Justin’s political commentaries have appeared in publications such as the Baltimore Sun, the Chronicle of Higher Education, the St Petersburg Times and the San Francisco Chronicle.

A former Fulbright scholar in Jordan, Martin has also won several grants to study Arabic and Arab culture from the US Department of Education, the Carnegie Corporation and Georgetown University. He earned a BS in Psychology from High Point University and an MA in Mass Communication from the University of Florida. His Ph.D., also in Mass Communication, is from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
