Justin Scarimbolo
Justin Scarimbolo Ph.D. (University of California-Santa Barbara, 2014), is an ethnomusicologist, sitarist and western classical guitarist based in Pune. His research has focused on the pre-history of North Indian classical music’s Hinduization, the role of expressive culture in shaping communal identities and the intersection of media technologies and musical transmission. He has presented on these topics at annual meetings of the Society for Ethnomusicology (SEM), and served as co-chair of SEM’s section on South Asian Performing Arts from 2015 to 2018.
