Kai Hafez

Professor Kai Hafez is the Chair for International and Comparative Communication Studies at the Department for Media and Communication at the University of Erfurt, Germany. From 1995– 2002 he was Research Fellow of the German Institute for Middle East Studies in Hamburg. In 2005/2006 he was Senior Associate Fellow at the St Antony’s College at the University of Oxford (UK). He worked as an academic advisor to the President of the Federal Republic of Germany for matters related to Islamic-Western relations and for the German-Arab media dialogue of the Press and Information Agency of the German Government (Bundespresseamt) and the German Foreign Ministry.

He is the author of numerous articles and several
books on the media and Islam, among them Arab Media – Power and Weakness (2008), The Myth of Media Globalization (2007), The Political Dimension of Foreign
News Coverage
(in German, 2002), Mass Media, Politics, and Society in the Middle East (editor, 2001), Islam and the West in the Mass Media (editor, 2000).
