Kalissa Alexeyeff

Kalissa Alexeyeff teaches in the Gender Studies Program, School of Social and Political Sciences, at the University of Melbourne. Kalissa’s interest in fashion and clothing comes from anthropological research undertaken in the Cook Islands and more recently Sāmoa and with Pasifika communities in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand over the last 25 years. She conducts research on gender, sexuality, development and globalization. Dancing from the Heart: Gender, Movement and Cook Islands Globalization (University of Hawai‘i Press, 2009) is her first monograph. She has co-edited volumes on Pacific sexuality, (Gender on the Edge: Transgender, Gay and Other Pacific Islanders [University of Hawaiʻi Press, 2014] with Niko Besnier), touring and tourism (Touring Pacific Cultures [ANU Press, 2016] with John Taylor).
