Karin S. Hendricks
Karin S. Hendricks is associate professor of music education and associate director of the School of Music at Boston University, where she received the university’s 2023 Metcalf Cup and Prize for Excellence in Teaching. She has served as president-elect, secretary and research committee chair for the American String Teachers Association and on Editorial Committees of the Journal of Research in Music Education, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, the American String Teacher and String Research Journal. Dr Hendricks has published seven books including Compassionate Music Teaching (Rowman & Littlefield, 2018), Performance Anxiety Strategies (Rowman & Littlefield, 2016), four edited volumes on music and well-being, and the Oxford Handbook of Care in Music Education (OUP, 2023). She has also published numerous research articles and scholarly book chapters. She received the American String Teachers Association ‘Emerging String Researcher’ award. Prior to university teaching, Karin enjoyed a successful thirteen-year public school teaching career. She was ‘Secondary Teacher of the Year’ for the Utah Chapter of the American String Teachers Association; ‘Teacher of the Year’ at Logan High School; and was a recipient of the United States Presidential Scholar Teacher Recognition Award. Dr Hendricks is active nationally and internationally as an instrumental music clinician and adjudicator, and gives regular lectures on music learning, motivation and performance.
