Karolina Pawlik
Karolina Pawlik is an anthropologist and a scholar of Chinese visual culture. She holds a Ph.D. in cultural studies from University of Silesia (Poland). Based in Shanghai in 2012–22, she taught in several international university programmes related to design, the creative economy and cultural heritage. Since 2022, she has been working as an assistant professor in the M.Sc. cultural and creative industries programme at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in Suzhou. Between 2018 and 2022, Karolina worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry, researching the interrelations between calligraphy, design and creative thinking. She co-edited the book Creative Industries and Digital Transformation in China (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022). She is also a poet and creative non-fiction writer. Her main research interests include design in China, ink art, Shanghai’s urban regeneration and urban lighting.
