Kirsten Schaefer

Kirsten Schaefer’s background is rooted in anthropology and fashion design, with a focus on human-centred design. She has collaborated on many multidisciplinary projects in the development of apparel solutions for infants with autism, breast cancer survivors, women with lymphedema and police service uniforms. Her Ph.D. research investigated the designer’s contribution to the 3D knit ecosystem, a network of design, technical and industrial specialists who cooperate to develop complex, seamless knitted products. Kirsten is a sessional instructor of textiles and apparel design at Ryerson University, School of Fashion. She is currently researching textile computing possibilities for diverse rehabilitation needs as a postdoctoral fellow at KITE, the research arm of Toronto Rehab Institute within the University Health Network.
