Kristina Jacobsen

Kristina Jacobsen is a cultural anthropologist, ethnomusicologist, ethnographer and assistant professor at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, USA, in the departments of Music and Anthropology (Ethnology). A touring singer-songwriter, she is the author of the award-winning book, The Sound of Navajo Country: Music, Language and Diné Belonging (UNC Press 2017, critical Indigeneities series); she also co-facilitates the University of New Mexico Honky Tonk Ensemble and fronts the all-girl honky tonk band, The Merlettes. Her research interests include music and language, the politics of Indigeneity, Indigenous language revitalization and arts-based research methodologies. Her current ethnographic project focuses on songwriting, Sardinian language reclamation and Italian colonialism on the Italian island of Sardinia.
