Kristy Hess
Kristy Hess is a professor of communication at the Deakin University, Australia. She is an expert on local media and digital journalism studies and is currently involved in two Australian Research Council projects – a Linkage Project exploring the civic value of local news and a Discovery Project examining media and the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. She is especially interested in people’s everyday communication practices, news ecologies and representations and perceptions of rural geographies and places. She also engages in research on media policy and adopts a critical lens to examine power relationships in media spaces. She has co-authored two books and co-edited several published international collections. She is on the editorial board of two international journals and is associate editor of Digital Journalism.
