Leigh Markopoulos
Leigh Markopoulos (1968–2017) was associate professor and chair of the Curatorial Practice MA programme at California College of the Arts, San Francisco. Formerly Director of Rena Bransten Gallery, Markopoulos held positions at the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, the Hayward Gallery and the Serpentine Gallery. She curated over fifty exhibitions, including Love Is a Stranger (2010) and Complicity: Contemporary Photography and the Matter of Sculpture (2009). She was a regular reviewer for Art Practical and contributed texts for many artists’ publications, including Johan Grimonprez (2011). Markopoulos recently edited Great Expectations: Propositions for the Future of Curatorial Education (2016), Rashid Johnson: Within Our Gates (2016), and Terry Smith’s Talking Contemporary Curating (2015).
