Les Levine
Les Levine is a pioneer of media art, one of the earliest artists employing media such as video, television, telephone conversations, and various advertising forms in his work. He utilized the idea of disposable art in the 1960s involving low-priced multiples. Levine has innovated in the areas of installation art and conceptualism, broadly understood. In 1969 he operated a restaurant art project in New York named Levine’s Restaurant, specializing in Irish-Jewish-Canadian cuisine. Levine created text and image billboard projects from the 1980s onward in order to probe and complicate the relations between commodity advertising and cultural experience.
