Lesley Main
Lesley Main is the author of Directing the Legacy of Doris Humphrey. The Creative Impulse of Reconstruction, published by the University of Wisconsin Press in 2012 as part of the Studies in Dance History series for the Society of Dance History Scholars. She has contributed chapters to Fensham Rachel and Alexandra Carter (eds), 2011, Dancing Naturally: Nature, neo-classicism and modernity in early twentieth century dance and Stephanie Jordan (ed.), 2000, Preservation Politics. Dance Revived, Reconstructed, Remade. Recent conference presentations include the Congress on Research on Dance (2009), Society of Dance History Scholars (2010). She is currently Head of Performing Arts at Middlesex University, teaching Humphrey Technique and Repertory. She danced in the USA with Ernestine Stodelle from 1985, is director of the Doris Humphrey Foundation UK and stages Humphrey’s work for Arke Compagnia D’Arte (Italy) and Momenta Dance Company (Chicago).
