Lorien Hunter
Lorien Hunter earned her Ph.D. in media studies from the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California in 2017. Her dissertation, ‘African state of mind: Hip hop, identity and the effects of Africa rising’, examined the recent expansion of the African Middleclass and corresponding developments in African youth culture to determine how technological, social, economic and political transformations in Sub-Saharan Africa since the 1990s known as ‘Africa Rising’ have altered what it means to be African. Currently, she is the Editor-in-Chief for Queer Majority, which is an emerging sex-positive cultural media outlet that focuses on intersectionality and normalizing difference through celebrating diversity.
