Lydia Harrington
Lydia Harrington completed her Ph.D. at Boston University (2022) and is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her forthcoming book ‘Improve and Reform Them’: Creating Citizenship and Crafts in Vocational Schools of the Ottoman East looks at the architecture and pedagogy of late Ottoman charitable state schools, with a focus on the transmission of craft knowledge and skills during industrialization. She is co-creator of Ottoman Boston: Little Syria, a public history project that documents the lives of Syrian and Lebanese migrants to Boston from the 1880s to the present.
