Mafalda Leitão

Mafalda Leitão is a sociologist working in Observatory on Families and Family Policies (OFAP), one of the observatories of the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon (ICS-UL). For the past twelve years she has participated in several national and international research projects in such areas as gender equality; work–life balance; leave policy; and family policies. She has been committed to the regular production and dissemination of national and international policy reports. She recently finished her Ph.D., entitled ‘Sharing initial parental leave: Fathers’ and employers’ perspectives’ (2018). Her most recent publications include: ‘Natalidade e políticas de família’ (‘Birth and family policies’), in Conselho Económico e Social (Conselho Económico Social e Almedina, 2018); ‘Políticas de família: Principais desenvolvimentos em 2016–17’ (‘Family policies: Key developments 2016–17’), OFAP (2018); and ‘Fathers on leave alone in Portugal: Lived experiences and impact of forerunner fathers’, in M. O’Brien and K. Wall (eds), Comparative Perspectives on Work-Life Balance and Gender Equality: Fathers on Leave Alone (Springer, 2017).
