Maggie Roberts

Maggie Roberts has explored the boundaries of machine and human vision through installations, performances and speculative fictions as part of the collaborative artist 0rphan Drift (0D) since 1995 (see www.orphandriftarchive.com). In recent years, she has been considering artificial intelligence through the somatic tendencies of the octopus – as a distributed, many-minded consciousness. This text, along with the multi-channel video installation If AI Were Cephalopod (Telematic Gallery San Francisco, 2019) and Becoming Octopus Meditations (IMT Gallery, 2020), addresses our limited understanding of the human in relation to other kinds of life. Maggie currently teaches fine art critical studies at Central St Martins, London, and is a research artist at the Royal College of Art, London’s AiDesign Lab.
