Mahadevi Ramakrishnan
Mahadevi Ramakrishnan received her Doctor of Arts from Syracuse University in 1993 with a dual concentration in French language and literature and International Relations. She has been a faculty member of the Romance Languages Department at Colgate University for eighteen years. She teaches French and Core French Caribbean courses. She is keenly interested in studying the preservation, loss and evolution of original languages and cultures of displaced groups, particularly within colonial, postcolonial and immigrant communities in the French Caribbean. Examining the circumstances of displacement, the acculturation process and the responses of the host communities to the presence of these newcomers, can help us better understand the dynamics of exclusion and discrimination.
