Maite Conde
Maite Conde is University Lecturer in Brazilian Studies at the University of Cambridge and Fellow at Jesus College, Cambridge. Her research focuses on Brazilian literature and film, particularly in relation to the city and modernity. She is the author of Consuming Visions. Literature, Writing and Modernity in Rio de Janeiro (2012) and recently edited, translated and wrote the introduction to the book Between Conformity and Resistance. Essays on the State, Culture and Politics by Marilena Chauí (2009–2011). Maite’s new book, titled Foundational Films. Early Cinema and Modernity in Brazil, explores early cinematic practices in the context of Brazil’s First Republic (1889–1930).
