Marco Pellitteri
Marco Pellitteri is a mass media sociologist and a visual cultures scholar. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Trento (Italy). He is a lecturer in the School of Journalism and Communication and in the MBA programme of Shanghai International Studies University. In 2013–16 he was a Japan Foundation and a JSPS research fellow at Kōbe University. From 2017 to 2019 he is a recipient of four research grants from the Hōsō Bunka Foundation and the Tōshiba International Foundation. Among his works is the 750-page-long book The Dragon and the Dazzle (Tunué with the Japan Foundation, 2010), as well as a variety of journal articles and book chapters. He has been conducting surveys and fieldwork in several European countries, investigating the features of Japanese animation and manga’s success (or lack thereof) at a mainstream level, and the influence of Japan’s pop and media cultures upon the opinions and representations of Japan in the European press.
