Margaret A. Coulter Smith

Dr Margaret A. Coulter Smith is a principal investigator with the Lydia Osteoporosis Project and a senior lecturer in the Division of Nursing, School of Health Sciences, Queen Margaret University. Her current research interests include bone health, osteoporosis, fracture risk and older persons’ moving and handling needs, clinical judgement/patient assessment, the focus of her 2004 Ph.D. thesis at the University of Surrey, complex interventions and evaluation. She undertakes qualitative, mixed methods and survey style research and has doctoral completions. She has published in academic journals since 1987. She currently supervises doctoral students in public health and nursing related topics including obesity in pregnancy, smoking in adolescents, out of hospital cardiac arrest and health ombudsman role. As principal investigator for the ‘Lydia Osteoporosis Project’ at QMU she has led three research projects focusing on osteoporosis.
