María Lourdes Cortés

María Lourdes Cortés holds a Ph.D. in Latin American studies from the University of Paris III-New Sorbonne. She is also a professor at the University of Costa Rica. She has twice won the National Essay Prize for the books Amor y traición, cine y literatura en América Latina (Editorial Universidad de Costa Rica, 1999) and La pantalla rota: Cien años de cine en Centroamérica (Editorial Taurus, 2005). For the latter, he received the ‘Ezequiel Martínez Estrada’ honorary award from Casa de las Américas for the best published essay of the year (2007). Amores contrariados: García Márquez y el cine (Editorial Ariel, 2014) won the prize for the best essay on cinema awarded by the New Latin American Cinema Foundation (2013). She was named Researcher of the Year at the University of Costa Rica (2020).
