Maria Mackinney

Dr Maria Mackinney is an associate professor in fashion theory at the Royal Danish Academy. Her research is concerned with the relationship between the practice of fashion including body adornment and how this impacts perceptions of identity. She has published extensively on the topic including the monograph Fashioning Identity (Bloomsbury, 2017). Her current research moves into neuro-aesthetics and fashion to explore how dress can improve well-being. She has also curated a number of exhibitions, most recently Oceanista: Fashion and the Sea at M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark (2021) and WONDER at Design Museum Denmark (2022).
