Martin Krenn is an artist, artistic researcher, curator and a professor of art mediation at the Braunschweig University of Art. He works with various types of media, especially text, photography and video. Most of his projects in public space take the form of social sculpture. His key area of interest lies in the strained relationships between art and society. By consistently expanding the field of art, he tries to initiate discussions about sociopolitical topics and challenge conventional thinking. Krenn holds a diploma from the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, since 1997. Krenn was awarded a Ph.D. for his project ‘The political space in social art practices’ by the Ulster University, Faculty of Art, Design and the Built Environment, in 2016. In 2017, Krenn was awarded the venia docendi in ‘Art and Communication Practices’ at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Since 1995, he has had numerous international exhibitions. Since 2020 he is working on the EU-funded SPACEX project at University of Applied Arts Vienna.
