Mary Reisel
Mary Reisel has been a lecturer at the department of International Studies at Rikkyo University, Tokyo, since 2006. Her research interests centre on intimacy, sexuality and the meaning of desire in the age of technology. Following an ethnography spanning over a decade in the world of enjo-kōsai dates, her articles present this unique market of exchanged intimacy and role plays through the different lenses of its participants – buyers, sellers and intermediators – and follows the development of enjo-kōsai and its growth into an independent extensive market providing fantasy for some and money for others.
