Matthew D. Kirk
Matthew D. Kirk was conferred a Ph.D. in international studies from Queen’s University Belfast in 2019. His thesis analysed UK and US news media representations of Palestinian female suicide bombers to assess the persistence of orientalist discourse which serves to delegitimize these gendered political actors. Dr Kirk’s research interests include the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, political activism and agency, postcolonial media (particularly Africa) and the relationship between digital media and democracy. Dr Kirk is a former associate lecturer at the Open University (United Kingdom) in social sciences. He has been published in Feminist Media Studies, Northern Lights and Atlantic Journal of Communication.
