Maximus Monaheng Sefotho

Professor Maximus Monaheng Sefotho is an associate professor in the Department of Educational Psychology (with a specialization/concentration in career guidance and disability) at University of Johannesburg. He is interested in research and teaching in career guidance, disability and philosophy of education. More specifically, his research and teaching work focuses on career choice/construction within the sphere of contemporary careers and hephapreneurship (a concept he coined). Professor Sefotho’s work is a sociopolitical act geared towards social change, reaching out to most marginalized communities in South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana as well as Mexico. He chooses to use the phrase ‘differently abled’ instead of ‘disability’ because he encourages ‘seeing abilities in disability’. He emphasizes inclusive employment and training in employability. As part of his global citizenship, he visited CEDEFOP, a European centre for career guidance in Greece, Universidade de A Coruna in Spain and Morelia in Mexico. He is currently a member of the Latin American Network of Educational Counsellors, working to include Botho/Ubuntu an indigenous model presently under development.
