Melissa L. Allen
Melissa Allen is a postdoctoral teaching fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University. She received her Ph.D. from the William & Mary School of Education where she studied higher education. Centred at the intersection between media studies and college student development theory, her current research explores the use of media and the functionality of media-based parasocial relationships in identity formation processes for queer young and emerging adults. Broadly, her research centres on the experiences of bisexual+ and aroace (aromantic and asexual) college students and their identity construction processes, as well as fandom and fan spaces as sites of identity development.
