Melissa Morton

Melissa Morton recently completed her Ph.D. at the University of Edinburgh and currently works in the branding and advertising industry. Her Ph.D. explored the role of music and sound in UK television logos (known as ‘idents’), combining audio-visual analysis and practitioner interviews with graphic designers and composers. She previously studied bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music at the University of Oxford, and her master’s research focused on girl singers with ‘mismatched’ voices in televised talent competitions. She has presented papers at international conferences including Music and the Moving Image (New York University), Sound on Screen (Oxford Brookes) and Vicarious Vocalities, Simulated Songs (University of Portsmouth).
