Michael Lawton

Born in Sheffield, United Kingdom (1980), Michael Lawton is an artist and writer living in Barcelona. He has an MA in fine art from Chelsea College of Art & Design and a Ph.D. fine art from the University of Kent. His research establishes an effective strategy and philosophical framework for creative writing as art criticism and conducting practice as research. This framework was arrived upon through reflection on his own painting practice alongside analysis of Graham Harman’s Object-Oriented philosophy. In 2018 he undertook a research residency at MACBA and started the long stay residency in Hangar (Barcelona.) He exhibits his paintings regularly and self-publishes one book a year. He has had articles and stories published in a variety of journals, most recently his story ‘Morta Della’, was included in Happy Hypocrite Ten: Tolstoyevsky.
