Michal Grover-Friedlander
Michal Grover-Friedlander is head of the musicology programme at the Buchmann Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University. Her main research areas are voice, opera and music theatre in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, and opera in relation to other arts – cinema, theatre and dance. Her book publications include Vocal Apparitions: The Attraction of Cinema to Opera (Princeton University Press, 2005), Operatic Afterlives (Zone Books, 2011) and Staging Voice (Routledge, 2022). She is a director and choreographer and the founder of TA OPERA ZUTA an ensemble specializing in contemporary opera, music theatre and collaborative projects. She has developed a unique approach she calls ‘choreography of the voice’. She has directed in Israel, Italy, Germany and Japan.
