Millie Young

I animate, therefore I am an illustrator. I illustrate, therefore I teach. I teach, therefore I draw on my environment. In drawing on my environment, I am animated! Millie has been an independent animator and teacher since 1992. In 1999, she won the UK Arts Council Taped Up award for her film Tally Bloody Ho!. In 2007, she completed her master’s degree at Brighton University with Mere Wife, an elephant-dung-paper cutout animation about the Karen hilltribe people and their elephants. The film was screened at the World Bangkok Film Festival in 2008 and was instrumental to her moving to Thailand, where she now lectures in animation and drawing at Mahidol University International College. Millie is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Silpakorn University, where she is focusing on 2D traditional handcrafted animation techniques in the 360° projection for storytelling.
