Monica Chieffo

Monica Chieffo is a Ph.D. candidate in musicology at UCLA whose research spans early modern sound studies, opera studies, and music and disability. Monica’s dissertation explores the intersection of sound, silence and sacredness in the devotional music of the sixteenth-century Oratorians of Rome. She has a forthcoming chapter on the politics of site-specific opera and urban space in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, and is also developing expertise in music and disability in her study of Tchaikovsky’s final opera, Iolanta.
