Monica García Blizzard

Mónica García Blizzard is an assistant professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Emory University. She received her Ph.D. in Latin American literatures and cultures from the Ohio State University in 2016. Mónica’s research focuses on the relationship between the Mexican racial formation and national identity in cultural production, especially cinema. She has previously published in Vivomatografías: Revista de estudios sobre precine y cine silente en América Latinoamérica. Her current book project is titled The White Indians of Mexican Cinema: Racial Masquerade Throughout the Golden Age. It argues that the filmic representation of indigeneity through White Mexican bodies during in the mid-twentieth century reveals the unresolved tensions between competing racial ideologies and proposals for national identity.
